best play kitchen in 2019

If you’re fond of cooking, it should come as no surprise to you that your little ones are starting to develop a keen liking for cooking, too. Children tend to imitate what they see in adults, sometimes even to the point of over-imitating them. This is why we have to be careful with what we show our kids and how we act around them.
Contrary to popular belief, pretend play that revolves around cooking and the kitchen isn’t only interesting for little girls but for little boys as well. We’re thankful because today’s play kitchen sets are no longer just marketed for girls and that there are gender-neutral color options so boys and girls can share.
Thinking about a safe way to encourage your little one’s interest in cooking? A play kitchen might just be what you need. Before we get into the top choices, though, here are a few things you need to know.

The Benefits of a Play Kitchen for Children

One of the reasons why every playroom or play corner needs to have a play kitchen set is because it’s not only fun and entertaining, it can be quite beneficial, too. Here are some of the benefits your child can get from his/her play kitchen.

Language development

while you don’t need to be teaching your little ones words like “mise en place” and “bouillabaisse” just yet, there are definitely lots of words that you can teach them with the help of their kids’ kitchen set and its accessories. These include the names of different foods, fruits, and vegetables along with a few action words like stir, mix, cook, bake, open, and close, to name a few.

Help understand and follow simple instructions

Aside from learning new words, you can also use the play kitchen as a tool to get your kids to obey simple instructions like “put the bread in the oven,” or “get the peppers from the fridge.” Being able to follow instructions is an important skill that they will be able to use for the rest of their lives.

Creativity and imagination

Kids are naturally imaginative and creative. It’s up to us, as parents, to encourage that and polish it so they can be whoever and whatever they want to be. Play kitchen sets often come with accessories that are perfect for creative and imaginative play so having it in your home is a definite must.

Foster sharing

Play kitchens are best enjoyed with others. If you have two or more children at home, a play kitchen is sure to put them in a sharing mood. It can also help them understand the concept of taking turns better

Confidence and independence

Not allowing kids to explore in the real kitchen can sometimes put a damper on their interest and their confidence. However, we can’t risk them getting injured in the name of exploration either. With a play kitchen, everything is kid-friendly and safe so your child can explore and experiment to their heart’s content, boosting their sense of confidence and independence through the roof.

Physical development

The great thing about play kitchens is that they’re able to grow with your kids and there’s always something that your little one can learn from playing with one. Enhancing their fine and gross motor skills, practicing visual discrimination, and practicing hand-eye coordination are just some examples of what kids can learn and practice from playing with a play kitchen.

A teaching opportunity for parents

You know how kids tend to listen less (or not at all) when they feel like they’re being lectured? Skip the lecture vibe altogether and insert a few teaching moments while playing instead. Some of the things you can teach them about while playing with a pretend kitchen include safety (fire burns, knives cut, etc.), responsibility (cleaning up, organizing ingredients, doing the dishes) and more.

The Winner

The title “Best Play Kitchen” for kids goes to the Little Tikes Cook ‘n Learn Smart Kitchen. We love that this kitchen playset is highly interactive and that it has the option to get hooked up to a gadget to turn it into an educational toy.
We also appreciate the fact that it has a garden section in the middle which parents can use to teach their kids about growing, picking, and cooking their own food as early as possible.
